Privacy policy

Footprintbook is a travel journal: you record your route, add photos, videos and stories and share your trip with people you invite. This policy explains which data we use for that, why, and what your rights are. The controller is MR-Beveiliging B.V. (contact: [email protected]).

What data

• Account: name, email address and password (stored encrypted).
• Location: only during a trip you travel on and for which you turned on sharing your location yourself. Outside a trip, or inside a privacy zone you set (for example around your home), nothing is stored. In the app your route is only recorded when you switch it on; this also works with the app in the background or the screen off, so your route is complete. You always see a notification and can stop it with one tap.
• Photos, videos, stories and voice notes you add. We do not keep originals: photos and videos are resized and their metadata removed; a photo's location is only used to place it at the right stop (never inside your privacy zones).
• Payments: if you take Pro, your plan, subscription period and payment history. Your card or bank details go to Mollie only; we never see them.
• Technical data: a session cookie to keep you signed in, your language and appearance choice and, if you turn on notifications, a push address of your device. We use no advertising or tracking cookies and never sell data. We also count visits anonymously (pages, country, how people found us), without cookies and without storing IP addresses.

What for

Only to provide the service you ask for: showing your trip on the map, letting your fellow travellers and followers see it the way you set, sending notifications and making photo books. Legal basis: our agreement with you (GDPR art. 6.1b) and, for your location, your consent (art. 6.1a), which you can withdraw at any time.

Who can see your data

Only the members of a trip approved by you or the owner. Followers may see your steps with a delay set by the owner. Your live position is only visible to approved members and never after the trip has ended.

Processors

• Hosting: our own server at Hostinger; security and speed through Cloudflare.
• Maps: OpenFreeMap and Esri provide map images (they see your IP address, no account or trip data); Google Maps for the map in a photo book.
• Only if you use the AI or voice features: OpenAI or Anthropic to transcribe or polish your text.
• Only if you take Pro: Mollie (Amsterdam) handles the payment.
• Only if you order a photo book: the printer and payment provider that handle your order.

Keeping and deleting

We keep your data as long as your account exists (Mollie keeps payment records as long as tax law requires). You can delete your account with all trips, locations and media yourself under Profile → Delete account; this is immediate and permanent (backups are overwritten within 14 days). Under Profile you can also download all your data.

Your rights

You have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict and port your data and to object. Email us at [email protected]. You can also lodge a complaint with your data protection authority.

Children

Footprintbook is meant for people aged 16 and over.
